I owned 3 Hyundai Elantra’s, my first was a white 2001. Was trouble free to 45,000 miles when a drunk driver feel asleep behind the wheel at 55 MPH and rear ended me while I was stopped at a red light. Pushed me into a telephone pole and crushed the back end of my car. I walked away with a small bruise were my seat belt was a a very dull ache in my neck that lasted 48 hours. Being a single Dad I was very impressed on how well the car protected me and knew I could count on it protecting me and my son. I immediately went back to Hyundai and bought a silver 2002 Elantra. Drove it 96,000 trouble free miles. Traded it in for a gold, 2004 drove that one 72,000, only issue I had was dead battery that was covered under the warranty, and in the Arizona heat it is not uncommon. In 2006 went to local dealer to buy an Elantra GT, they were unable to locate a midnight blue, 5 speed with moonroof. Was being impatient and did not wait and bought 2006 Nissan Sentra, midnight blue with 5 speed and moonroof from dealer down the street. Wish I had been more patient and stuck to Hyundai! The Nissan was in the shop 17 times in the first 6 months I owned it. Thinking I purchased a lemon and frustrated with being at the dealership and not being able to drive my car, I traded out of the 06 for a clean “little old lady” trade in. A gold Sentra with an automatic (sigh) – The first 4 months were fine then that Sentra started acting up. Thankfully I was able to pay the car off because right after it hit 40,000 mile (and it is out of warranty) I started to have a bunch of gremlins that plagued the car. Fast forward 8 months and $5,200.00 later the car seems to be doing ok now, except for the occasional power window that refuses to go up or down but will start working usually after the car is shut off and turned back on. I do not want a car payment until I finish my degree in 12 months, but when I do get another car there will only be one place I shop and that is back at the Hyundai dealer. I am thrilled that they are starting to add high end options to the Elantra. I am really hoping that they release the turbo Elantra in the USA, the estimated 200 HP, with high MPG’s will be great! I see a fully loaded Elantra in my future, and this time if they do not have the exact car I want at the dealer, I will wait for them to locate it or order it.

Alot has changed over the last few years. Honda and Toyota now has a worthy rival….and one that will eventually force both to change their ways to keep up.

The hyundai line up for 2011 is looking awesome.
The sonata is probably the most impressive affordable car I seen for 2011.
The i20 n i30 are exactly what is needed. Attractive hybrids.
The hybrid compacts of today are ugly.

What I would like to see is…
Downshift rev matching for genesis coupe transmission.
Also a complete sportier reprogram on the auto.
Maybe a smooth shifting B&M shifter on track manuals.

Update on genesi sedan suspension to feel sporty yet slightly more refined.
Hyundai is doin there thing. Kudos to the company!
