Who would have known that a 4-door sedan from South Korea costing $40,000 would make such a big impression? Well, Hyundai did. The 2010 (and soon to be upgraded to the even more impressive 2011) Hyundai Genesis was a gamble for the best-known-for-economy-rides Hyundai Motors. Critics felt no vehicle from their line up was worth over $30,000, let alone $40K. But add in a 3.8 liter V6 engine a specialized Coupe version (complete with its own logo), leather interior and the most thoughtful design to come from Hyundai yet, and you have the makings of a masterpiece.

According to Consumer Guide Autos – The 2010 Hyundai Genesis offers slightly more V8 power following its introduction for the 2009 model year. Hyundai’s largest car comes in two models, 3.8 and 4.6. The 3.8 has a 290-horsepower 3.8-liter V6 engine. The 4.6 has a 385-horsepower 4.6-liter V8 engine, an increase of 10 horsepower from 2009. A 6-speed automatic is the sole transmission.

A navigation system, power rear sunshade, and power tilt and telescopic steering wheel are standard on the 4.6 and optional on the 3.8. A cooled driver seat, adaptive bi-xenon headlights, adaptive cruise control, and a rear-view camera are available on all.

Hyundai Genesis has some stiff competition from already well-established luxury sedans, including the Lexus LS, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Audi A8 and BMW 7-Series – all of which, like Genesis, are due for model upgrades in 2010, 2011.

Hyundai Genesis Gets Sportscar Treatment for SEMA

The SEMA Show and Hyundai get a kick in the pants when three tuners – Rhys Millen Racing, Street Concepts and HKS – get together and give birth to a Genesis Coupe roadster. The “GReddy X-Gen Street Genesis Coupe” is an example of the tuning partner’s showcase – Not only will the product be displayed for this show but customers will be able to customize their own cars using parts presented.

This tuned up Genesis Coupe 2.0T includes a turbo kit, a large front-mounted intercooler and a SE Spectrum Elite cat-back exhaust system – which for now brings the Coupe to 350 horse power and maximum torque of 320 lbs-ft, along with 0 – 60mph time under 6 seconds. After SEMA the tuner says “more changes will be made to achieve a power figure close to 500 horse power.” For now those changes will remain a mystery.

Exterior-wise bits like an aero lip spoiler, a carbon fibre bonnet and an aggressive rear spoiler were added. The interior comes with Sparco racing seats, a boost controller, a turbo timer, some modified gauges and a remote switching system.
