Every car company, much like a professional sports team, needs a solid game plan to cement their ideas into production for the next couple of years. The last thing you want is that plan getting out – or at least you want people to think it’s bad the plan is leaked – maybe you wanted it shown to the world all along! Hyundai may be playing a little of the Spy Who Loved Me when it comes to fooling us all – as plans for their 2011 line up, including new MPV’s and coupes, came online over the weekend.

Honestly, the “leaked plan” seems like quite the way to go – closer to the end of 2010 Hyundai plans on releasing two MPV vehicles, the i20 and i30 – as part of the auto maker’s alternative fuel (electric mostly) vehicle line up.

In 2011, Hyundai will launch a new i40 which is expected to be based on the Genus Concept. Aimed at the Volkswagen Passat and Opel Insignia, the i40 will be offered in both sedan and wagon form with a long list of fuel efficient engines. Finally, Hyundai’s sexy Veloster Concept will also head for production with a Mini Clubman-like four door arraignment (one on driver’s side, two on the passenger’s side, and one rear hatch). Engine options are expected to include a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with 140 hp as well as a slightly larger 2.0-liter with 172 hp (Source: WorldCarFans)

No, Hyundai is not joining forces with Apple to bring you the first iCar – unfortunately. But at this year’s Paris Motor Show (Mondial de l’automobile Oct. 4th – 19th) the car maker will show off their new eco-friendly fuel efficient three-and-five-door hatchback, soon to be on sale for the European and Australian markets.

In North America we have a close cousin to Hyundai’s “i” series (i10 & i30) in the Accent & Elantra. Accent has become a big seller with both the cost conscious and lovers of compact cars. Its size (bot Accent’s and i’s) hearkens back to the much loved (yet short lived) Toyota Echo. i20 will come with Hyundai’s i-blue concept – an all new state of the art 1.4 diesel engine, producing 220Nm of torque and CO2 output of just 99g per km, with a fuel consumption averaging 68mpg. i20 will be ready for sale in Europe in the end of 2008, with no release date scheduled in The Land Down Under.

More is coming up from Hyundai Europe and the “i” market. Engineers are working on a new hybrid petrol-electric drive, combining the current 2.4 liter engine and a 30kW electric motor powered by lithium-ion batteries – that will (hopefully) give drivers upwards of 44mpg. Also coming up, a hybrid sport utility vehicle – the ix55. Stay tuned!
